NASA and Hasselblad began working together in 1962 during the Mercury Program, seven years before the moon mission, to ensure that the cameras would function properly in the intense cold temperatures and decreased gravity in space. Hasselblad repurposed an existing consumer model, the 500EL, into the Hasselblad Electric Data Camera (EDC). It was this camera that would be used to take the, now iconic, photos of astronauts (including Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin) walking on the surface of the moon. Buzz Aldrin salutes the US flag while Neil Armstrong photographs him The Hasselblad EDC was once on the moon carried by Apollo 15. Most cameras brought to the moon were left there. This one is back, and now for sale. 2009-07-23 · A total of 1407 exposures was made during the Apollo 11 mission, on 9 magazines of film.
